About the book: Studio-X New York is one node of a global network that includes like-minded event/work spaces in Beijing, Mumbai and Rio de Janeiro. But that wasn't always the case. In the beginning, this lone "pilot" Studio-X-unadvertised and largely invisible to the public, tucked away behind an unmarked door on the 16th floor of a nondescript office building in Lower Manhattan-needed an infrastructure, identity, audience, and a set of tools to make it work. Contemporary Digital Architecture: Design and Techniques, Dimitris Kottas

This book presents the latest developments in the field of architecture as it has been reshaped by the use of digital technologies. The last few years, technological developments in both hardware and software have enabled the realization of ideas that until now were only presented as theories, and have also opened new and unexpected areas of experimentation. The new digital technologies are influencing every stage of the creative process from the initial exploration of ideas to the construction of the final work and its interaction with the user. These developments are presented in four chapters, each one including detailed presentation of the most important relevant projects and general theoretical-technical information.

Czech Center launches new public art

The Czech Center will prepare a series of exhibitions by contemporary Czech and international artists that will be presented on the windows of the building at 1109-1111 on Madison Avenue where the permanent mission of the Czech Republic to the UN in New York is located. The aim of the project is to address the broad public that walks by on this luxurious avenue and to use this space for a dialogue of artists with the public.

We hope that the WINDOWS ON MADISON will offer a space for contacts and exchanges between Czech and American art communities and become another attraction on the Museum Mile.

Terreform ONE

The first project poses the question “What is the future of the future? ” and confronts passersby with the statement “Yesterday we dreamt about the future, today the future dreams about us”.

The project originated in collaboration between the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art in Prague, which recently organized the exhibition The Future of the Future, and the New York group of architects, designers and scientists called Terreform One. Two windows on Madison Ave. display Terreform’s designs for future means of transportation in New York City and other big cities, such as the SOFT Jetpack and the SOFT Blimp Bumper Bus.

Terreform ONE wins the Zumtobel Group Award

Co-Founders Mitchell Joachim and Maria Aiolova awarded EUR 60,000 At a meeting at Roden Crater, Arizona (USA) in February, an international jury selected this year's winners of the Zumtobel Group Award for Sustainability and Humanity in the Built Environment. The award in the "Research & Initiative" category went to the non-profit design group Terreform ONE, jointly founded by Mitchell Joachim and Maria Aiolova, for the project "New York City Resource & Mobility", a visionary plan for New York City that converts waste to buildings and reinvents the city transit system. The work for this on-going urban project is fundamentally based on the activist notions of self-reliance in the profound writings of Henry David Thoreau, Bill Mollison, Buckminster Fuller, and William Mcdonough. "This project is a rich source of interesting ideas of real substance.
