Architecture Record; Terreform ONE in Navy Yard

"Terreform ONE, a nonprofit design group and “ecological lab,” will be located there. Currently, they are housed in a temporary space next door. Terreform explores green design in cities, and recently studied how New York could produce its own food, water, and energy. One good example of what they envision can already be found in the Navy Yard: Brooklyn Grange, a 2.5-acre rooftop farm."

Reinvent Adaptive Cities with Alex Steffen, Mitchell Joachim and more

Alex Steffen thinks cities of today are incredibly brittle, and they need to quickly become much more adaptable. All the core infrastructures of cities were built before before anyone heard of global warming but now we face new challenges ranging from floods to droughts. Steffen has some big ideas about what cities can start doing now to "ruggedize" and be ready for our more volatile future. We've got a terrific lineup in the roundtable to help him figure all out. Watch Now →

NYU, Institute for Public Knowledge and Marron Institute lecture

This Public Forum will address Infrastructure. Changes in climate an an increase in extreme weather events demand that we reimagine our cities, and the infrastructure that makes them inhabitable, efficient, and desirable places to live. The vast majority of large cities are on coastal waterways that will be directly impacted by rising sea levels--what challenges and opportunities does this offer planners, architects, engineers, and communities? How can we rethink the way energy is distributed and used? What forms of transit are viable? And how should we organize our supply chains for food and other goods?
