Dr. Joachim Awarded Visiting Artist at Navy Yard
For the
first time ever the Brooklyn Navy Yard Center offers an annual program to
artists seeking to work on-site once per year. Established in 1801 as one of the United States first five naval
shipyards, the Yard has developed into the Nation’s premiere
naval industrial facility. Today, the Yard serves as a national model
for sustainable urban job creation with a rapidly growing cluster of
green manufacturers.
With the exception of the newly opened Brooklyn Navy Yard Center at
BLDG 92 and associated tours, this modern industrial park remains closed
to the public. The Visiting Artist Program has been established in
response to the tremendous interest conveyed by local, national and
international artists to get “behind the gates.”
Mitchell Joachim and Maria Aiolova have been awarded Visiting Artist status for 2012-2013.
